The School Park botanical gardens In the centre of Jakobstad one can find oneself in a peaceful green oasis. Unexpected at this latitude, one can see a thousand types of plants growing here. The botanical gardens (laid out 1915-1932) are the result of a donation by the Schauman family to the memory of Elise and Victor Schauman. The School park has an area of approx. 1.35 hectares. The aim of the park is to promote the study of botany in the town schools and to “open and broaden the mind to the beauty of the world of plants, their wonders and uses”.
